What happens when you are passionate something? You can't get your mind off it. Whatever you love consumes you, right? I've had many passions in my life: my kids, my husband, football, baseball, gardening, dogs, and many more. There is nothing wrong with these things as long as they aren't out of balance.
For Christ followers, relationship with Jesus should always be first priority.
Mark 12:28-30-28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’
So why do people profess to be Christians but have no passion for making him priority? No desire to know Him or pursue Him? It just doesn't add up. They embrace the world but yet they claim to love Christ. Can we not think anymore? How does the same person that puts “Christian” as their religious view on social networks live and look exactly like the world? Is this even possible? Shouldn't those who say they desire to be more like Christ actually be striving to learn more about Him? Shouldn't we be seeking Him? Don't we emulate that which we love?
A few days ago, I got a phone call from a family member who said he just wasn’t sure about if this Christianity thing was real. He said he wondered if those people “back in the day” were just sheep and just didn’t know any better. Frankly, I was excited about his honesty!! At least he was THINKING! Many of us are just coasting through our lives never questioning what we have been brought up to do or to believe. God has given us these incredible minds to debate with, to rationalize with, to research the truth….let's use them!
THE most exciting thing about Christianity to me is that has been so incredibly scrutinized by many who have come to find the facts so irrefutable that they have been converted! We are, Praise God, the only religion that serves a risen historical Jesus whose word and prophecies have been fulfilled thousands of times, over and over and over again! Christianity is not only rationally compelling but also provides the solution to the longings placed by God in our human hearts. The evidence is irrefutable! (Check out Greg Koukl's ministry at Stand to Reason!)
So, I guess my concern is, because I care for you and for those God has entrusted to me, that we all evaluate the state of your hearts today and each day. Do you say you know Him but yet live completely disobedient to his word? We all struggle with sin, but do you even want to live a life dedicated to Him?
If there has been no change, there has been no conversion. There has to be evidence. Seek Him. Ask Him to show you what is really in your heart so that you can see what He alone can change!
He has all the answers. He IS the answer.
Ephesians 2:4-9- 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
