Joni Eareckson Tada on Disabilities and Suffering

When I was a little girl I read a book called Joni about a quadriplegic woman who painted amazing artwork using a paint brush in her mouth and lived her life "walking" with Christ. I never thought she and I would have the same level spinal cord injury or similar struggles. Fast forward many years, Joni Eareckson Tada has lived an extraordinary life since her diving accident in 1967. She has now been in a power chair for over 40 years. Every morning her aides come in to get her up, dress her, put her makeup on and get her to work. Her accomplishments are mind boggling as she has worked to help the disability community through Joni and Friends and she takes wheelchairs to needy people all over the world through Wheels for the world. Add to that the many books she has written and her radio program. Read her biography here.

As I was looking at John Piper's Desiring God blog, I saw a entry linking to a blog asking for Prayers for Joni. Clicking on it i find she recently was at Dallas Theological Seminary and you could watch the video. It is below and on the link site. I highly recommend it. She is an amazing woman. Thank you Joni! You are a very bright light in our lives! Please pray for her.

Dear Marci,

I came across your blog through Google alerts, highlighting disability. Thanks for posting the video.. I hadn't seen it before. She is a great source of inspiration for me as well, considering I have a disability. It's amazing to see the stuff that she accomplishes through God. Anyway, please feel free to stop the my blog at:

to learn more of my story. We need more people like you and me spreading the Good News.
God bless you, Debbie.
