Confusion

Times of general calamity and confusion create great minds. The purest ore is produced from the hottest furnace, and the brightest thunderbolt is elicited from the darkest storms. --Charles Caleb Colton

Everyone from the president to congress to the church seem to be confused. There is no absolute truth for many. One day they say one thing, the next day another. No one lies, they mis-speak. They don't cheat on their taxes, they make unfortunate mistakes. No shame is evident. It is maddening.

Anyone else troubled by the confusion in our nation? With a crumbling economy and an administration with an obvious agenda to further it's demise, what do we as Christians need to do? My first instinct is to fight but I find this brings out my argumentative side that can be well, not pretty...at all!! Like a pit bull, I can rip you to pieces if you don't agree with me. So, then, I go to the other extreme and decide no TV, no radio, just me and Jesus. Let's sing cum by ya...becoming isolated isn't the answer either. How do we find balance in the chaotic confused world?

I don't pretend to have the answers here. These are just the things I'm grappling with. I want to be a good citizen of my awesome country and I want to be a good citizen of God's kingdom. Can we have both? Or do we need to quit our jobs, sell the house and move to the country to grow our own veggies? I'm serious. I believe they are calling this "going John Galt". Are you as tired as we are? What's the point of all of it?

Through much reading and prayer, I'm again reminded to continue to sift it all through the fingers of God, not my emotions. A WWJD move of sorts-trying to balance helping others here to come to a knowledge of HIM while keeping my focus on knowing Him through his word and remembering his faithfulness in the midst of adversity. Without adversity, the lost person cannot realize their need for HIM. Perhaps there is a coming revival in the hearts of Americans. Maybe "Christians" will even OBEY and bear fruit, now that would be a change! We are promised that if we are his he "works all things together for good." I guess now we get to see if we really believe it.

God is not surprised by all this confusion...that is one thing I am sure of today. What if we as Christians will begin to depend more on Him each day, in good times and in confusion. May HE be glorified through the confusion! After all, that is our ultimate goal. May we "be still and know that He is God" (Psalm 46:10) remembering our brevity here and direct our gaze at the awesome creation all around us that reminds us of his exquisite design. Thank you God that we know the end of the story and that nothing is too hard for you! (Jeremiah 32:27)

Proverbs 2:1-8:
1 My son, if you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,

2 turning your ear to wisdom

and applying your heart to understanding,

3 and if you call out for insight

and cry aloud for understanding,

4 and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure,

5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord

and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the Lord gives wisdom,

and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7 He holds victory in store for the upright,

he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

8 for he guards the course of the just

and protects the way of his faithful ones.

The beauty for us in all of this confusion is the confidence of knowing who holds the future in His hands.
