Vote Values

The election is almost over!! I am trying not to let it drive me mad. I hear people calling in to talk radio saying they are pro-life but will vote for a pro-abortion candidate. Others are excited to get a chance to stick it to those "wall street" folks with their vote. It's just nuts!

Here's the deal. You can't have it both ways. You can't pick a candidate that is pro-abortion that you know will choose at least 2 pro-abortion supreme court justices if you are against abortion. We allow 4000 babies every day to be killed in the U. S.. Just over 4100 soldiers have been killed in the Iraq war in 6 years. How long do you think a nation will go unjudged that allows this? Are you aware of the disproportionate number of African-American babies that are killed? Do you realize that your tax dollars will pay for it under his administration? Do you realize it is a money making enterprise? Wasn't slavery tolerated because it increased profits? Is slavery more offensive than killing 1 1/2 million infants a year? By sucking their body parts out, piece by piece? What kind of people have we become that we are numb to this? As a former labor nurse, let me assure you, the baby IS a baby.

Also, you can't vote your pocketbook. A vote is not a license to impose your selfish desires on others but a privilege to judge what is morally right. A vote to increase taxes on someone else so you can have more is legalized stealing and class warfare. Even the bible states all should give a tenth.

So, as this finally comes to a close, I was watching and listening to several discussions on how a Christian should vote. I was just searching for some real truth. Frank Turek's show "I don't have enough faith to be an Atheist" was so informative, laying out the guidelines for how Jesus would vote. I'll post it below. Also, I learned much from RC Sproul's radio program "Renewing your mind", a must-hear!! find it here: Principles for Choosing a leader. Wish these would have run as 30 minute infomercials!!

Now that people have learned that their vote is worth money, democracy will begin to disintegrate as we know it. We have allowed our representatives to go about unchecked and they have become corrupted by the powerful lobby and those who do not have the country as their first priority. Our self-centeredness has exploded into the "It's all about me" generation. We have not prayed enough and we have taken our democracy for granted. No matter who wins, we need to be informed and active and stop sitting on the sidelines.

God is in control, even when the rain falls. Never doubt. Whatever happens, it is sifted through his hands and I pray it will be used for his glory. This is a wake up call to Christians to know what they believe and to vote as a citizen of the real kingdom instead of a citizen of this world. Pick a candidate whose belief system lines up with the word of God. Vote righteousness over race and values over "what's in it for me?" mentality. We need to examine ourselves and get our core beliefs solidified so we can lovingly bring other Christians into the biblical world view. Time to quit being lukewarm, enough said...

2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

I pray our nation sees what is happening. If not, the church better rise up!
